Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, born on February 16, 1990, in Scarborough, Ontario, is widely known by his stage name The Weeknd. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, he is a singer-songwriter, record producer, and a prominent figure in the R&B/pop/hip-hop genre. Throughout his career, he has been hailed as the songbird of his generation and has drawn comparisons to musical legends like Michael Jackson.

The Weeknd initially gained critical acclaim for his three mixtapes: House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. These mixtapes were later compiled and remastered into a three-disc album titled Trilogy after he signed a record deal with Republic. In 2013, he released his debut studio album, Kiss Land.

In 2014, The Weeknd garnered attention with his remix of Beyonce's "Drunk In Love" titled "Often" and the release of "King of the Fall." He achieved solo success with the song "Earned It" from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.
